This month we celebrate our precious stone… Rubies! Ruby is one of the four precious gemstones. The others are emerald, sapphire, and diamond and are rated as a 9 on the Mohs scale.

The word Ruby originated from the Latin word ‘Rubens’ meaning red, to describe the colour given to these gorgeous gemstones.

Rubies can be found in many shades of red, from rich darkish red to blood red and pinkish red. The red hue comes from traces of the mineral chromium.

They have been found all over the world, including Burma, Africa, Australia and the USA. Because of their brilliant red hues, they often represent love and passion and are the traditional gift for 15th and 40th anniversaries, as well as being the July Birthstone.

In cultures, Ruby is said to encourage passion and a thirst for life. It works to improve motivation and setting of realistic goals, balances the heart and instills confidence within.

Ruby also encourages joy, spontaneity, laughter and courage. It overcomes feelings of exhaustion and constant tiredness and in return Calms hyperactivity.
