The short answer
Most custom engagement rings take between six and eight weeks from consultation to collection. Simple designs using readily available stones sit toward the shorter end of that range; intricate settings, bespoke stone sourcing, or hand engraving can push it toward eight weeks.
A realistic week-by-week guide
• Weeks 1–2: Consultation, concept sketches, and design refinement
• Week 2–3: Stone selection and sourcing (faster if using in-stock stones)
• Week 3–4: CAD modelling and client sign-off
• Week 4–6: Casting, stone setting, and hand-finishing
• Week 6–8: Final quality check and collection, for more complex pieces
What speeds things up or slows them down
Choosing a stone already held in Melbourne rather than one that needs to be sourced internationally is the single biggest factor in turnaround. Simpler band and setting designs also move faster than pieces with detailed engraving, pavé work, or multiple stones, since more of the process is hand-finished rather than machine-set.
Planning around a proposal date
If you're working toward a specific date - an anniversary, a trip, a proposal already planned - say so at the first consultation. Micheli's team will flag upfront whether a design is realistic for your timeline, and will suggest adjustments rather than let you find out too late that a stone needs six weeks to arrive.
