Remodelling FAQs
How much does it cost to remodel jewellery in Melbourne?
The cost to remodel jewellery depends on the complexity of the design, CAD work, and workshop labour required. While using your own gold and gemstones reduces material costs, remodelling requires specialized technical work—including careful stone unsetting, custom forging, and stone resetting. During your initial consultation at our Malvern or Moonee Ponds boutique, our master jewellers provide a transparent, line-by-line quote before any work begins.
Can I remodel my jewellery if I live interstate or outside Melbourne?
Yes, we regularly work with interstate clients across Australia via virtual design consultations. You can consult with our design team via video call to discuss your vision, share inspiration, and review CAD renders. We provide fully insured, secure courier instructions to safely transport your heirloom pieces to our Melbourne workshop and back to your home once complete.
What can be reused from my existing jewellery?
Most precious gemstones, diamonds, and solid gold or platinum metals can be reused when remodelling jewellery. During your consultation, our master jewellers carefully test and evaluate your piece:
- Gemstones & Diamonds: Assessed for structural integrity, hardness, and suitability for resetting.
- Precious Metals: Solid yellow gold remodels exceptionally well. White gold, rose gold, and mixed alloys are evaluated to determine whether they can be directly melted and recast or processed for metal credit toward your design.
- Unused Materials: Any unused metal or secondary stones remain your property and are returned to you securely upon completion.
I have a few questions before booking an appointment—can I speak to someone first?
Yes, you can reach out to our team via phone or email prior to making an appointment. While an in-person or virtual consultation allows us to inspect your physical pieces under a loupe, we are more than happy to discuss initial ideas, rough lead times, and basic feasibility over the phone or via email beforehand.
Can I bring inspiration photos or design ideas to my consultation?
Yes, bringing photos, Pinterest boards, or rough sketches is highly encouraged. Sharing your preferred aesthetics—whether vintage, art deco, minimalist, or contemporary—helps our design team understand your style vision. From there, we tailor a bespoke design that balances your aesthetic preferences with the structural requirements of your heirloom gemstones.
Can you make small changes to a ring I already own without completely remodelling it?
Yes, we offer modification services for existing rings where technically feasible. This includes adjusting band widths, changing claw settings, adding side stones, or altering profiles. If a piece requires structural changes beyond simple alterations, our jewellers will explain your options so you can decide between a minor modification or a full redesign.
I don’t know exactly what I’m after—can you design something for me?
Yes, our custom design team will guide you through the creative process from scratch. You do not need to bring a finished concept to your appointment. Our designers and master jewellers will assess your heirloom pieces, present complimentary design directions, sketch initial concepts, and provide 3D renders to help you visualize your new piece before crafting begins.
What is the lead time for initial designs and production?
The total lead time for jewellery remodelling is typically 4 to 6 weeks from final design approval.
- Initial Consultation & CAD Renders: 1 to 2 weeks for concept creation and approvals.
- Workshop Production: 3 to 4 weeks for hand-crafting, setting, and finishing in our Melbourne workshop.
- If you have a specific milestone date or event, please let us know during your initial consultation so we can accommodate your schedule.
