Your jewellery is saying something, even when you're not speaking.

The stack of rings built over years, each one chosen at a different moment in your life. The single piece you put on when you want to feel a certain way. The chain that goes on every morning without thinking because it has become, somehow, part of you. Each of these is a choice. A small, daily articulation of who you are and how you want to move through the world.

Buying jewellery for yourself, with that kind of intention, is a different experience to receiving it. You're not hoping someone has understood you correctly. You know exactly what you mean. And there's an argument, a strong one, for going further than just buying something close. For having something made that's unambiguously, completely yours.

The Limits of Choosing From What Exists

When you shop for jewellery from what's available, you're always making a compromise. The stone is almost the right colour. The setting is close to what you had in mind. The proportions are fine, but not quite what you were imagining. You take the closest thing you can find and hope it grows on you.

Sometimes it does. And sometimes, years later, you're still slightly aware that it wasn't quite right.

A custom piece closes that gap entirely. You're not choosing from what exists, you're describing what you want, and it gets made. The stone you actually chose, in a setting designed around it, in a proportion that suits how you wear jewellery. Nothing approximated. Nothing close-enough.

That's the Micheli process: a conversation about what you love and how you live, stone sourcing on your behalf, and a design developed collaboratively with our team, then made in our Melbourne studio by jewellers who care about the outcome as much as you do.

The Right Hand Ring, Made Right

If there's one piece that has come to represent feminine self-gifting, it's the right hand ring. Chosen by you, for you. Worn not as a symbol of partnership but as a statement of identity. Of independence. Of knowing what you like and seeing no reason to wait for someone else to provide it.

The right hand ring is also one of the best candidates for a custom piece, precisely because it's so personal. There's no template for what it should look like. It could be a bold coloured stone in a setting designed entirely around it. A cluster of diamonds worn simply because you wanted to wear diamonds. A clean architectural band in a metal you've always been drawn to. An asymmetric design that doesn't exist anywhere else.

We custom design right hand rings often, and the process is one of our favourites. The brief is always clear, because the client knows exactly who she is and what she wants. Our job is to translate that into a piece that's built to last, made to be worn, and completely unlike anything in a display case.

A Piece Built for How You Actually Live

One of the advantages of custom jewellery that doesn't get talked about enough is fit. Not just physical fit, but the fit between a piece and the life it's going to live.

If you wear jewellery every day, the piece needs to be built for that. The band needs to be thick enough to hold up to daily wear over decades. The stone needs to be set with enough metal to stay secure whether you're at a desk, in the gym, or never taking it off at all. The proportions need to suit not just how you look, but how you move.

At Micheli, we think about this from the first conversation. We ask how you wear jewellery, what your daily life looks like, whether there are activities the piece needs to withstand. Then we build accordingly, to our own standards, which means a minimum shank thickness that most jewellers don't match, settings made by our own trained jewellers rather than subcontractors, and materials we know the provenance of because we cast our gold locally in Melbourne.

The result is a piece that looks beautiful when you pick it up and still looks beautiful in twenty years. Because it was made for your life, not for a photograph.

Wearing Your Values, Too

For many women, self-expression in jewellery now extends to where a piece comes from and how it was made. The ethics of a purchase are part of its meaning. A custom piece, made transparently by a team you've met, is one of the most accountable ways to buy fine jewellery.

We offer both lab grown and mined diamonds and will walk you through the genuine differences without steering you toward either. We source ethically, certify our stones independently, and are transparent about every material choice we make. When you commission a custom piece from Micheli, you know exactly what went into it. That clarity, we think, is part of what makes it yours.

Start With a Conversation

You don't need a mood board or a fully formed brief. You need a sense of what you love, even a loose one, and the willingness to have a conversation about it.

We'll look at what you already wear. We'll talk about what you reach for and what stays in the drawer. We'll ask the questions that turn a vague idea into a clear one — and then we'll design and make something that's unmistakably, enduringly you.

Come in. No occasion required.
